The New Covenant and the Law

Does the New Covenant abolish Yahweh’s law?
1998 scriptures version

Christians today are told that the 10 commandments are done away with in the New Covenant due to Yahshua’s sacrifice, but is that what Yah’s word says? Let’s go to the Word of Yahweh for the answer.

Matthew 19:17-18 And He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good except One – Elohim. But if you wish to enter into life, guard the commands.”

So we see from Yahweh’s word and from the mouth of His son Yahshua that we will be blessed for doing His commandments and we will enter into life.

Yahweh also said that He will not change the covenant. Psalms 89:34 “I shall not profane My covenant, Neither would I change what has gone out from My lips.

He also shall not change. Malachi 3:6 “For I am יהוה, I shall not change, and you, O sons of Yaʽaqoḇ, shall not come to an end.

To prove that the 10 commandments are still in effect, only New Testament scriptures are quoted for each commandment.

Commandment 1

Deuteronomy 5:6-7 ‘I am יהוה your Elohim who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, out of the house of bondage. ‘You have no other mighty ones against My face.

Matthew 4:10 Then יהושע said to him, “Go, Satan! For it has been written”, ‘You shall worship יהוה your Elohim, and Him alone you shall serve.’

Matthew 22:37-38 And יהושע said to him, “ ‘You shall love יהוה your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your being, and with all your mind. This is the first and great command.’

Commandment 2

Deuteronomy 5:8-10 ‘You do not make for yourself a carved image, any likeness of which is in the heavens above, or which is in the earth beneath, or which is in the waters under the earth, you do not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, יהוה your Elohim, am a jealous Ěl, visiting the crookedness of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing kindness to thousands, to those who love Me and guard My commands.

1 John 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amĕn.

1 Corinthians 10:7 And do not become idolaters as some of them, as it has been written, “The people sat down to eat and to drink, and stood up to play.”

Commandment 3

Deuteronomy 5:11 ‘You do not bring the Name of יהוה your Elohim to naught, for יהוה does not leave him unpunished who brings His Name to naught.

Luke 11:2 And He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in the heavens, let Your Name be set-apart, let Your reign come, let Your desire be done on earth as it is in heaven.

1 Timothy 6:1 Let those who are servants under a yoke regard their own masters worthy of all respect, lest the Name of Elohim and His teaching be blasphemed.

Commandment 4

Deuteronomy 5:12-15 ‘Guard the Sabbath day, to set it apart, as יהוה your Elohim commanded you. ‘Six days you labour, and shall do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of יהוה your Elohim. You do not do any work – you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, so that your male servant and your female servant rest as you do. ‘And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Mitsrayim, and that יהוה your Elohim brought you out from there by a strong hand and by an outstretched arm. Therefore יהוה your Elohim commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

Luke 4:16 And He came to Natsareth, where He had been brought up. And according to His practice, He went into the congregation on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

Hebrews 4:8-9 For if Yehoshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. So there remains a Sabbath-keeping for the people of Elohim.

Commandment 5

Deuteronomy 5:16 ‘Respect your father and your mother, as יהוה your Elohim has commanded you, so that your days are prolonged, and so that it is well with you on the soil which יהוה your Elohim is giving you.

Matthew 15:3-6 But He answering, said to them, “Why do you also transgress the command of Elohim because of your tradition? “For Elohim has commanded, saying, ‘Respect your father and your mother,’ and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’ “But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me has been dedicated,” is certainly released from respecting his father or mother.’ So you have nullified the command of Elohim by your tradition.

Ephesians 6:2-3 “Respect your father and mother,” which is the first command with promise, in order that it might be well with you, and you might live long on the earth.”

Commandment 6

Deuteronomy 5:17 ‘You do not murder.

Matthew 5:21-22 “You heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder,’ and whoever murders shall be liable to judgment. “But I say to you that whoever is wroth with his brother without a cause shall be liable to judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raka!’ shall be liable to the Sanhedrin. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be liable to fire of Gehenna.

James 2:10-12 For whoever shall guard all the Torah, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of Torah. So speak and so do as those who are to be judged by a Torah of freedom.

Commandment 7

Deuteronomy 5:18 ‘You do not commit adultery.

Matthew 5:27-28 “You heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ “But I say to you that everyone looking at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

1 Corinthians 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the reign of Elohim? Do not be deceived. Neither those who whore, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

Commandment 8

Deuteronomy 5:19 ‘You do not steal.

Romans 13:9 For this, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other command, is summed up in this word, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”

Ephesians 4:28 Let him who stole steal no more, but rather let him labour, working with his hands what is good, so that he has somewhat to share with those in need.

Commandment 9

Deuteronomy 5:20 ‘You do not bear false witness against your neighbour.

Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to each other, since you have put off the old man with his practices,

Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, having put off the false, speak truth, each one with his neighbour, for we are members of one another.

Commandment 10

Deuteronomy 5:21 ‘You do not covet your neighbour’s wife, nor do you desire your neighbour’s house, his field, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, his ox, nor his donkey, or whatever belongs to your neighbour.’

Luke 12:15 And He said to them, “Mind, and beware of greed, because one’s life does not consist in the excess of his possessions.”

Romans 7:7 What, then, shall we say? Is the Torah sin? Let it not be! However, I did not know sin except through the Torah. For also the covetousness I knew not if the Torah had not said, “You shall not covet.”

So in conclusion, we see that the 10 commandments are still valid for all of us to keep today.

Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are those doing His commands, so that the authority shall be theirs unto the tree of life, and to enter through the gates into the city.

May Yahweh bless you for keeping His law.
